BADESI
BADÉSI
Badesi is a municipality located in upper Gallura, in the province of Sassari, with about 1,850 inhabitants. It became an autonomous municipality in 1969. The territory of Badesi extends to the banks of the Coghinas River, a natural border between Gallura and the Anglona region. Part of the Gallura fiefdom, Badesi presumably originated in 1700 following the settlement of some related family groups from which today’s families of the town descend, sharing the same surname. This perhaps explains the incredible recurrence of these surnames (Stangoni, Carbini, Oggiano, Sanna and Fara). The economy of this corner of Gallura is still mainly agricultural, focusing on viticulture, favored by the sand dunes with junipers surrounding a fertile alluvial plain of the Coghinas River, locally called Riu di Cuzina (Cucina according to the Tempio dialect).
The origin of the name Badesi comes from one of the rivers that flows through it, known as ‘Badas’. Badesi is a well-known tourist destination, especially for its long sandy coastline, which extends from Baia Delle Mimose (bordering the Coghinas River mouth) to Li Mindi beach, located at the other end bordering the Municipality of Trinità d’Agultu e Vignola. Since 2016, the Blue Flag has been flying on Li Junchi beach, a recognition also awarded in 2017 to Li Mindi beach and Baja delle Mimose.
