Calangianus

Calangianus is one of the most active centers in Gallura, in northeastern Sardinia. It occupies the slope of a mountain massif and offers countless tourist attractions.
Famous for its cork production, which has made it one of the best-known Sardinian centers, it sits at 500 meters altitude in a basin protected by the granite and wooded heights of the Limbara massif, in the heart of Gallura. Its historic center features granite-paved streets, with stone houses arranged around the parish church of Santa Giusta. Characterized by a 14th-century granite façade, it was enriched in the 16th century with a painting depicting the Assumption and in the early 20th century with frescoes and marble works.
Connected to the church is the diocesan museum of sacred art, an exhibition space created in the oratory of Our Lady of the Rosary, adjacent to the parish church. You will admire a collection of precious pieces dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, especially liturgical objects. In the oldest part of the village stands the small church of Sant’Anna (1665), also in granite, which preserves a 19th-century painting depicting the saint.
On the outskirts, you will find the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, behind which stands the Capuchin convent, built in 1705 and suppressed in 1866. Restored, it now houses the cork museum, which tells the story of the village’s traditional symbol through displays of antique machinery and cork objects.
In the countryside, the churches of Santa Caterina and San Leonardo, dating back to 1623, also stand out.
Among the cork oak forests of the eponymous park, you can find the 18th-century sanctuary of San Sebastiano martire. On the outskirts of the town, on a hill, is the Sigara spring, a destination for walks among woods and breathtaking views
